Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce

Discover oustanding recreation on (and alongside) Lake Superior, beautiful scenery, and much more in the Ashland area in northwestern Wisconsin.

Find yourself next to the water when you visit Ashland in the northwestern corner of Wisconsin.

What water? That’s Chequamegon Bay, an inlet on the southwestern shores of Lake Superior, the largest of the Great Lakes. Chequamegon Bay and the surrounding area inspire all sorts of outdoor adventures, including excellent fishing (for smallmouth bass, salmon, and more), paddling, and boating. The region is also one of the best birding destinations in the Midwest, home to nearly 300 species.

Nature lovers can also discover some of Wisconsin’s best waterfalls in Ashland County. Copper Falls State Park near Mellen boasts secnic waterfalls on the Tyler Forks and Bad rivers, and Morgan Falls in nearby Marengo is the second-highest waterfall in the state. (When you’re visiting Morgan Falls, take time to do the hike to the top of St. Peter’s Dome, which offers incredible views of Chequamegon Bay and the Apostle Islands.)

Uncover the story of Ashland with more than 20 murals that depict important people and events in the city’s history—in fact, since 2005 Ashland has been known as the “Historic Mural Capital of Wisconsin.” It’s also home to an eight block downtown business district that’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
